Applicant Information
We are aware of the stress families can experience when moving. Going through various admission processes can be time consuming and confusing. We hope to expedite this process for you by being as flexible as possible with our appointment schedule, by allowing your child to test in his or her hometown if necessary, and by sharing information with other independent schools when you request it. The following guidelines are intended to simplify this aspect of your move.

Admission Appointments
You will most likely be looking at several schools when you visit the area. Call us as soon as you know your travel plans and we will try to accommodate your schedule, although morning appointments are preferred. Please refer to the Admission Calendar to avoid missing important deadlines.

We recommend that you limit the number of schools you visit to no more than two a day, especially for elementary age children. Our experience tells us that being away from home and having appointments at several schools in one day is tiring and can have a negative impact on your child. It is better to stay a few extra days than to over-schedule school appointments.

Testing
Applicants under the age of six will take the Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV).

Applicants for first grade will take either the WPPSI-IV or the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-WISC-IV, depending on the child's age.

Applicants for grades 2-5: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-WISC-IV; plus: Woodcock-Johnson Achievement Battery (ERB scores from other independent schools may be substituted for the Woodcock-Johnson).

Applicants for grades 6-11: Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). For information call 800-446-0320 for ISEE or 609-683-4440 for SSAT. (ERB scores from other schools may also be acceptable.)

Shared Testing
The following schools in the Washington D.C. area share standardized test results: Alexandria Country Day School, Beauvoir, Browne, Bullis, Burgundy Farm, Capitol Hill Day, Congressional, Flint Hill, Georgetown Day, Holton Arms, Langley, Maret, McLean, National Cathedral, National Presbyterian, Norwood, Potomac, St. Patrick's, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, Sheridan, Sidwell Friends, Stone Ridge, Washington Episcopal, and Woods Academy.
