Academic Overview

At St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, we set the highest academic standards through a demanding college preparatory curriculum. The academic program gives our students a firm grasp of fundamental skills and develops their ability to think and write creatively, critically, and independently. In addition, the curriculum fosters an appreciation for the diversity and interconnectedness of human experience. We challenge our students to ask more questions, give consideration to other points of view, and never settle for the easy answer.

Each day, more than a thousand students enter our classrooms ready to meet head-on the challenges of a fully integrated curriculum prepared by our outstanding faculty. Our teachers are passionate and hard-working, patient and inspiring. Small class sizes allow them to respond to individual needs, making it possible to help each student adjust to the school's rigorous pace and demands. Students are gradually given more independence and more choice and are encouraged to pursue their talents in a variety of elective and advanced placement courses. To view complete curriculum information for each campus and grade level, please visit the Lower SchoolMiddle School and Upper School pages in this section.

During a visit to our school on any day of the school year, you will see our students as active learners, engaged in analyzing, discussing, writing, experimenting, reading, and participating in individual and group study. Recognizing that each student has a point of view to express and a unique story to tell, our teachers make every class a safe zone for taking intellectual risks and expressing creativity. They do this because our mission is to help our students succeed in a complex and changing world, a goal that inherently requires a culture of respect and honor.

We believe wholeheartedly in our mission to inspire a passion for lifelong learning and to always strive for excellence. We believe it not only for our students, but also for our faculty. At St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School our teachers constantly work to become better teachers, model lifelong learning, and serve their profession by sharing their skills and enthusiasm with fellow educators. Professional development is an expected, deliberate part of our teaching ethos because we know there is no better way to prepare our students for a complex and changing world than for them to be guided by such teachers.
