Technology can expand learning beyond the classroom walls, by providing access to a wealth of resources and facilitating participation in authentic learning experiences taking place around the world.

Collaborate. Innovate. Express.

We are preparing students for an exciting world of change, innovation—and jobs that don’t yet exist. But their imaginations and creativity will get them there. It’s not enough for them to know the facts. To succeed in the 21st century, our students learn to:
  • Think critically
  • Ask brave questions
  • Identify problems
  • Create new solutions
  • Express themselves
  • Collaborate
Our curriculum, teaching, and school culture utilize the best of proven methods and draw upon current research from thought-leaders in 21st century education. From kindergartners to seniors, across disciplines, we blend history with innovation, thought with action.

Tinkering Spaces

Students need time and space to explore their creativity. That's why SSSAS has "tinkering spaces" on each campus. Filled with puzzles, games, and building pieces, the tinkering spaces allow students unsupervised, stress-free zones for letting their imaginations run wild. No assignments, no grades. Just work together and see what evolves!

Robotics

SSSAS offers Upper School courses in robotics, along with award-winning student robotics teams. We also offer classes in engineering, programming, and more. Students begin to learn these skills in Lower and Middle School.

Jon Gibbs, Class of 2002, MIT graduate, aerospace engineer

My interest in STEM started in the Middle School at SSSAS. My Upper School robotics class allowed me time to tinker and dabble with different ideas in the world of engineering.

Imagination Playground

Innovation through play for our youngest learners. Pull it apart, rearrange it, build, play! The SSSAS Lower School has two sets of Imagination Playground - separate, interlocking pieces that children use to create their own play spaces. It encourages learning, cooperation, problem-solving, creativity, and social development.

3D Modeling & Printing

Create your own designs and produce three-dimensional prototypes right in the classroom! SSSAS has mutiple 3D printers on each campus for educational use. The Upper School offers a course in 3D Modeling and Printing.

Design Thinking

Developed at the Stanford University d.school, Design Thinking is a methodology that teaches new strategies for solving problems using five major steps: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. SSSAS faculty use this process to tap into students' creativity and help them tackle nuanced problems.

X-STEM Saints

SSSAS participates in the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C. as a certified X-STEM School exhibit host. Our X-STEM Saints show their creative passions and engage hundreds of visitors in hands-on, interactive activities about physics and renewable energy. They also demonstrate our 3D printers, GoPro helmet cam, and our robotics team showcased their robots.
