Applying to the Lower School

The very first step in applying to St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School is to let us know you are interested. You can do so by completing our convenient online Inquiry Form or by contacting the office directly. Once we hear from you, we'll set up a time for you to visit the campus and mail you our complete admission packet.

Grades JK-1 Application Process

  • Come Visit Us!

    • Join one of our small group tours for parents. The best way to select a school is to see it firsthand; for this reason campus tours are a required step in the process. (Due to limited space, we regret that we are unable to include children in the group tours.) Each tour will last from 8:30-11:00 a.m.  Group tours are held in October, November and December.
    • In addition to touring, parents will schedule an individual meeting with an admission director. This visit gives parents an opportunity to learn more about the school as it specifically relates to your child.

  • Lower School Curriculum Night

    Join us to learn more about our challenging academic program in grades junior kindergarten through five. Curriculum Night is held in December.
  • Submit the Application

    Apply online! When you begin the application, you will be asked to create an account with our online forms system. Submit your child's application, photo, and fee by December 15After this date, please call the Admission Office for more information.
  • Individual Testing

    Testing in the Lower School consists of two parts: individual aptitude testing and group testing.
    • Parents arrange for individual testing by calling a tester to administer either the WPPSI-IV (for children under the age of six) or the WISC-V (children over the age of six).
    • Results of testing must be received in our office by January 12.

    If Your Child is Applying to Other Schools
    St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School has an agreement with the following schools to share standardized test results: Alexandria Country Day School, Beauvoir, Browne, Bullis, Burgundy Farm, Capitol Hill Day, Congressional, Flint Hill, Georgetown Day, Holton Arms, Langley, Maret, McLean, National Cathedral, National Presbyterian, Norwood, Potomac, St. Patrick's, Sandy Spring Friend's School, Sheridan, Sidwell Friends, Stone Ridge, Washington Episcopal, and Woods Academy.
  • Admission Group Testing

    Testing in the Lower School consists of two parts: individual aptitude testing and group testing.
    • Mark the dates on your calendar for group testing in December and January.
    • After the application is received, parents will be notified by email of the specific date and time for their child's visiting day.
    Group Admission Testing Dates:
    JK/K: Saturday, early December
    JK-1: Saturday, early January

    Your child will be invited to a Saturday visit day at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School. This is an opportunity for children to work with teachers and to interact informally in a classroom setting. The group testing consists primarily of a visit to SSSAS to observe how children act in a classroom setting. Children will participate in familiar preschool activities such as listening to a story, working one-to-one with a teacher, and playing with a small group of children. 
  • Submit Supporting Documents

    Applicants will submit all required forms through OnBoard. If you have not done so already, please go to the OnBoard to create an account and setup your Student Profile.
     
    St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School is one of the DC area schools using a web-based application called OnBoard for the submission of online forms. Through OnBoard, you will be able to manage your application process online and complete supplemental forms such as teacher evaluations. You will also be able to print the Parent Request for Release of Records form and submit it to your child’s school guidance counselor, principal, or director, requesting the release of school records. All supporting documents are due by January 12, 2018. After this date, call the Admission Office for more information.
     
  • Decision Letters

    At St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, we understand that the admission process can be a tenuous time for families. To help ease the burden of uncertainty as soon as possible, we will mail admission decision letters between March 1-3. Please allow several days for postal delivery. Parent replies for accepted students are due on March 14 in order to reserve a spot for the upcoming school year.

Application Deadlines

Thank you for your interest in SSSAS. The application deadline for the 2018-2019 school year has passed. However, if you would like to speak to an admission officer about your specific grades JK-5 needs, please contact 703-212-2705. 
St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School is an independent, college-preparatory, coed, day, Episcopal Church School that educates students in junior kindergarten through grade 12. The school consists of three, age-appropriate campuses (Lower, Middle, and Upper School) in Alexandria, Virginia. SSSAS welcomes families of all faiths.
