The Saints came out eager to prove themselves in their season opener versus Paul VI. After finishing the season last year 2-8, four of their losses coming by a combined 10 points, the Saints were not going to take anything for granted.
A rejuvenated 2018 squad led by Junior Captain Tre Boone (RB/LB) came out firing, sticking two tackles in the opening series. Boone didn’t stop there. After the change of possession, he busted through the Panther’s secondary for a 30-yard run tallying the Saints first touchdown in their opening drive.
The game was a battle of adversity. Moss field was blistering hot, clicking in around 100 degrees, but a resurgence in the numbers in the Saints Football Program provided the depth needed to help the boys power through the heat. After going into halftime up 30-14, the Saints were not satisfied. They continued their dominance throughout the rest of the game, starting the second half with a marching drive to go up 37-14.
The Saints scored in all three phases of the game. Sophomore Malcolm Johnson (WR/DB) displayed his versatility returning a punt 85-yards for a touchdown and snatching a jump ball from classmate quarterback Rob Montgomery taking it 62 yards to the house. Late in the third quarter, a barrage from the Saints defensive line led to a PVI fumble, which Tre Boone was able to scoop up and return to the end zone for a defensive score.
Junior Tyler Logue had a fantastic kicking game, booting a 37-yard field goal, 7-8 on PATs, and launched four touchbacks in the kick-off game.
