Environmental Stewardship
Faculty, staff and administrators implement our school's environmental stewardship goals and determine the best ways to implement these goals across the three campuses.  The all-school committee discerns the priorities, monitors progress towards the established goals, and suggests school-wide activities to foster environmental stewardship.

The committee members educate peers on each campus on the issues of energy reduction, waste reduction, recycling, greener commuting, gardening, the campus landscape, and education for sustainability.

Environmental Stewardship Committee

The mission of the the JK-12 Environmental Stewardship Committee is to:
  • educate the SSSAS community about being good stewards of the Earth and living in balanced ecological relationships;
  • raise awareness of people who suffer from environmental injustices;
  • respond to the Episcopal bishops’ urging to address climate change “so that all may enjoy full, healthy, and abundant lives;” and
  • move the SSSAS community into actions that reduce our collective environmental impact both on and off the school’s three campuses.

Student Groups and Clubs

St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School students are fully engaged in our school’s sustainability objectives not only through the curriculum, but also through student-led clubs and groups.

  • Kindergarden students plant and maintain the Kinder Garden adjacent to their classrooms.
  • Middle School advisories collect and measure recyclables weekly at the Middle School.
  • Middle School club "Eco-Squad" raises environmental awareness of faculty, staff, and students and tends the pollinator gardens on campus.
  • The Green Leadership Council at the Upper School is comprised of student leaders who guide peers in best practices related to school-wide sustainability.
  • Upper School Environmental Club creates and leads sustainability efforts at the Upper School including movie nights, and the annual Students for Sustainability Conference
