The Association of Parents and Teachers

Welcome to the APT!

The APT exists to support and enhance the school community through a strong and responsive parent/teacher structure and inclusive and community based organization of events. It’s comprised of all parents/guardians of enrolled students, teachers, administrators, and school staff. The head of school represents our teachers and staff and is a voting member of the APT Executive Board.

There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer and get involved — from helping support and organize a specific event to taking a shift with Steve & Aggies or with Fall or Spring Festival, to serving on a committee or joining our Board. Your time and talents would be greatly appreciated and are highly valued, no matter what time commitment you can give. Volunteering is a wonderful way to support our students, faculty, and staff, as well as meet other Saints families and increasing the sense of all-inclusive Saints community.

We invite you to explore our many programs and events, including our Shopping Program, the Fall Family Festival, Teacher Appreciation Days (in fall and spring), Spring Festival, and our exciting fundraiser, the Annual Spring Party and Auction (to be held this year on Leap Day 2020). The APT organizes a Welcome Pot Luck in September and promotes class-level parent socials in the weekly APT section of the SSSAS Dispatch. Every other year we offer a Speaker Series.

We couldn't offer all we do without the volunteer support of parents, faculty, and staff, and the financial sponsorship of our families. We ask all families to voluntarily pay APT dues of $50. To see how the funds are used to support our teachers and students.

The APT Allocations

It has been an exciting year to be a part of the APT. Because of your generosity and kindness, the APT was able to contribute $220,000 in the allocations process for the 2018-2019 school year.  We approved the majority of the requests submitted by our wonderful SSSAS leaders and staff from the Upper, Middle, and Lower Schools, including over $50,000 to the APT Holden Summer Fellowships $20,000 for the school’s general scholarship fund. This year, in addition to providing the opportunity for author visits on all three campuses, we were proud to provide our teachers with the funds requested to seek additional math training and curriculum development.
As a direct result of the Saints community working with and supporting the APT, we were proud to be able to contribute many gifts to the school. At the Lower School the APT provided museum tickets for the fifth grade Philadelphia field trip; Sinclair Library Visiting Author Program; professional development to support social responsibility for teachers; Expedition Days (X-Days) of learning on- and off-campus; professional development and resources for mathematics; kindergarten gardening curriculum, shed, supplies and a raised bed; outdoor classroom sheds and upkeep; tricycles for our youngest Saints; additional outdoor playing equipment. At the Middle School the APT provided rolling book carts; Rov8 Rotating Climber for recess; flexible seating; art displays in the hallways; professional concert attire; a Make Space art table; and beginning small group professional band lessons. At the Upper School the APT provided new outdoor recreation supplies; six Mechanical State Compound microscopes; two large human torso models for the science department, eight Vernier Interfaces and six sets of probes; and six choral performance risers.
