Welcome to Upper School Admission

Welcome! I am excited about your interest in the Upper School at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School!
While all grades are closed for admission for September 2020, the Admission office will happily work with families who are exploring admission for the 2021-2022 school year.

Life at our Upper School is a time of continued social-emotional growth and identity, academic challenge and preparedness, self-advocacy, and extracurricular opportunity and leadership.

As a Saint, you will be challenged and supported by caring and passionate faculty who will celebrate your accomplishments and lend a helping hand when you stumble.

Our goal within the admission office is simple: to provide you with opportunities to discover how you can come as you are to join a welcoming community through a customized and streamlined application process.

I look forward to partnering with you as you embark on your admission journey!

Answering your Questions

List of 10 items.

  • Step 1 Detail – How do I receive more information?

Let us know you are interested in us! Complete our convenient online INQUIRY form or call our office at 703-212-2706. Once we hear from you, we'll mail you our complete admission packet and set up a time for you to visit the campus.
  • Step 2 Detail – How do I schedule a campus tour and interview and what should I expect?

Families may self-schedule private in-person tours or virtual tours through the mySSSAS parent portal. Touring is a recommended Admission step to learn about our welcoming school community and all of the unique offerings at SSSAS. COVID-19 safety protocols (including mask-wearing and distancing) will be practiced and are more fully communicated upon registration.

Virtual interview meeting times are now available to self-schedule through your mySSSAS  parent account or by calling the Admission Office at 703-212-2706. Tip: Scroll to the bottom of this page for detailed screenshot instructions.

Please note, private tours will occur separately from student and parent interviews. Following the completion of the tour, families will need to schedule their interviews for a separate date and time. Both the tour and the interview with an admission director is an opportunity for you and your child to ask questions about the school and the admission process. And, for us to learn about what is important to your family!
  • Step 3 Detail – How and when do I begin my child's online application?

You can start now! When you begin our convenient online application, you will be asked to create a MySSSAS account via the APPLY link above. Hint: Make note of your secure log-in information so you can manage your application moving forward.

Please submit your completed application and the $75 fee by January 15, 2021. After this date, call the Admission Office at 703-212-2706 for more information.

If you are testing with SSAT and wish to use their Standard Application, we will accept that form in lieu of our application.
  • Step 4 Detail – How do I schedule an optional Admission test (SSAT or ISEE)?

Admission aptitude tests are optional for the 2021-22 Admission Year.  Middle and Upper School students have the option of taking the SSAT (preferred assessment) or the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) for standardized testing results. Both the SSAT and the ISEE include assessment in verbal and quantitative ability, reading comprehension, and writing. Students may take either test. Here is information about the SSAT at a Glance.

Please Note: Testing will not be administered at our school this year. Please register for “at home” testing through the website.

Test scores are mailed directly to the applicant and schools designated to receive them.
    • To have SSAT results reported to SSSAS, include school code: 6238
    • To have ISEE results reported to SSSAS, include SSSAS school code: 470040
Applicants must register directly with SSAT or ISEE in order to attend any testing sessions.

As noted above, school codes to have results reported to St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School are 6238 for the SSAT or 470040 for the ISEE.
    • For further information about SSAT testing dates and locations, please contact SSAT directly at or 609-683-4440.
    • For further information about ISEE testing dates and locations, please contact ISEE directly at or 800-446-0320.
Please Note: If your child has taken the PSAT, SAT or the ACT, it may be used in lieu of standard Admission testing. Please discuss this option with an Admission director.
  • Step 5 Detail - What are supporting documents and how do I complete and submit them?

Supporting documents include two teacher evaluations (English and Math), Release of Records form, School Transcript, and Student Applicant Questionnaire.

Students applying to St. Stephen's and St. Agnes submit all required forms through our web-based portal via the APPLY link. If you have not done so already, please begin the application process and create a student profile.

  • How do kids get to SSSAS? Is there bus transportation?

Some families carpool or walk to school. Additionally, students ride one of the many bus routes to and from school or our shuttle service. Our bus fleet at SSSAS provides service to the major jurisdictions: Alexandria, Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince William Counties in Virginia; Prince George’s County in Maryland; and the District of Columbia. The service picks students up from specific locations in their communities. Please contact us for detailed information.

Morning and afternoon shuttles run between the three SSSAS campuses to reduce the need for families to drive between campuses. This is convenient for those who live near one campus, with children attending class on another campus, to avoid traffic congestion. Each campus has morning and afternoon departures to the other two campuses and the Braddock Road Metro. There is no charge for the shuttle service for SSSAS students.
  • How much is tuition and is tuition assistance offered?

Visit the Tuition and Financial Assistance page for the most accurate and detailed information. Financial Assistance is based on financial need. Grants range from 5 percent to 90 percent of the total tuition. Financial assistance is not available for the Junior Kindergarten program.
  • What should I do if I have children applying to different campuses?

If you have children who may be applying to different campuses, please contact the Admission Director for your oldest child.

The Application Process in Your Hands

We use an online portal, My SSSAS located on the top right of each screen. Once you establish an account, you can manage your child's application and schedule visits on your schedule.

Getting started is easy!

  1. Log in to My SSSAS (login screen shown here).
    • If you need to create an account, note the highlighted section.
    • If you forget your login information, you can request a reminder shown on the bottom right of the login screen.
  2. Once logged in, select your student's name to open the checklist in the far left corner.
  3. Navigate to the application checklist and follow the button prompts.  (Checklist screen shown right).
    • Notice the online Schedule feature that displays the available appointments on a calendar. Choose a time that works for you.
Your account will also display updates to your application checklist status with updates, such as transcripts and recommendations, that generally appear within 24 hours.

Once your student is enrolled, this same portal manages academic progress and is a family resource where homework assignments and grades are posted. Parents and students appreciate having one location to manage all their school information.
