The magazine was noted by judges with the following comments:
“Creating a magazine teaches students the fundamentals of publishing and creative writing, proofreading/editing skills, and concepts of design/composition while promoting and supporting a community of young writers, thereby nurturing esteem and status. Your magazine shows the superior efforts of talented and creative editors, writers, artists, photographers, layout/graphics designers, staff members, contributors, and advisors.”
“Your ability to keep your publication alive and printing during a pandemic is a testament to your dedication and devotion to your publication, school, community, and to each other. Congratulations for surviving this unpredictable situation successfully!”
“Fire & Stones is an amazing publication! Not only have you mastered the basic elements of a good magazine (staff box, table of contents, etc.) but you have also published excellent works from your school population. Fire & Stones is a model for those up-and-coming magazines and an inspiration for those that haven't quite aced the necessary skills.”
The American Scholastic Press Association competition judges approximately 2,000 yearbooks, newspapers, and magazines annually from high schools, colleges, and universities across the nation.
