Fifth graders experience a five-day musical residency program with World Percussionist Tom Teasley.
Fifth graders have been participating in a five-day musical residency program with World Percussionist Tom Teasley this week (April 12-16)! Mr. Teasley has joined each fifth-grade music class virtually, introducing them to music from around the world including his most current work as Cultural Ambassador to Haiti through the U.S. Embassy.
Saints learned new drumming techniques and solkattu. They also learned about culture and music while playing the Maksum, a Middle Eastern 4-beat rhythm, on the drum. This meditative groove was complemented by the shakers, finger cymbals, and melodica. Additionally, students explored rhythm and sound using natural objects found during a campus nature walk.
It's been a unique musical and cultural experience for our student leaders on the Lower School campus.
