In a brutal loss @Potomac School the JV side learns a hard lesson.
In their second fixture, the "Fighting Saints" of the JV Girls squad fell to Potomac School 7-1. The starting 11 came out flat and the Panthers took advantage of their homefield advantage and a deep bench. For the first 50' minutes of the match, the Potomac School side stayed on the front foot as the Saints seemed to whither under the pressure. The Saints side battled the heat, a short bench, and multiple in-game injuries to score a singular goal on a laser strike from Madeleine Moore on an assist from Mariel Irish. While there are no moral victories, the Saints showed some life near the end and stayed on the front foot for the last 20-minutes of the match.
Although the numbers don't show it, the goalkeeping of Catherine Poersch was outstanding -- Catie "stood on her head". And even though we were down and under near constant pressure, the tenacity of the Captains and the stepping up of Madeleine Moore, Elliot Desautels, Morgan Nielsen, and Lydia Penkiunas, the side returned to form near the conclusion of the match. Now with one day of rest and recovery, the side turns its attention to redemption against Flint Hill School in the sides' home-opener.
Again, much love and appreciation to the parents who endured the heat and insects to support the ladies.
