The Lady's of JV Fighting Saints Battle to Tie Ireton: 60-yard Chip Caps Match
In another exciting match on home pitch, the JV side tied the ladies of Bishop lreton. Ireton came out swinging with a quick goal in the opening minutes of the Saints' second home fixture. But the JV side hit Ireton with an amazing counter strike on a beautiful finish by Elliot Desautels from a defense-splitting through ball from attacking midfielder Sarah Spalding. The match see-sawed back and forth with even splits in possession until Ireton snuck a stinger passed Saints' keeper, MacKenzie Allen. The Lady Saints, not to be denied the equalizer, struck a dagger of a counter with a pin-point strike from Morgan Nielsen off an unselfish assist from Hayley Lookadoo.
The Saints and Ireton went into the half-time all-square at two goals apiece. In the second half, the Saints came out a bit flat and gave up several opportunities in their final third of the pitch with one finding its way home in the top shelf of the Saints uprights. With the score 3-2 Ireton, the saints poured it on driving in the Ireton defending third and creating beautiful score chances. In the 62nd minute of play Madeleine Moore was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. With time winding down Maddie took a perfectly placed free kick, but the Ireton keeper was right there. But the Saints attack was relentless and with 2 minutes left in regulation, Ellery Johnson, feeling the frustration mounting and the clock ticking down, ripped a 65-yard Hail Mary of a shot over the out-stretched arms of the Ireton keeper to square the match at 3 apiece. The Saints had more left to dish and stayed on the front foot for the rest of regulation and stoppage time, but ultimately, they were denied the go-head goal.
In only her second game with the JV side, Mackenzie Allen is the player of the match. Her keeper play was outstanding, she did everything she was asked, and then some, to keep the Saints side in the match -#stoodonherhead. Again, the wing play in the match was stellar, Maddie Moore and Lydia Peckiunas played their hearts out. A special shoot-out goes to Elliot Desautels for her relentless work as the 9, dropping into the midfield to get the attack started and to regain possession Last but not least, Ellery Johnson. Ellery's "beast mode" defense and her equalizing goal stole the show.
Thank you to the parents and students that came out to support the side. And congratulations to the Varsity ladies for dominating victory over the Ireton Varsity side.
