Tell us about how you met at SSSAS:
Angel and I met in ninth grade. We had English and Science classes together. We did not speak much in English, but we became lab partners in science, which led to an unlikely friendship. I say unlikely (and Angel agrees) because if we had not been paired in science, it is not likely we would have taken the time to get to know one another.
How do you two reminisce about the school now 20 years later?
First, it does not feel like it has been 20 years! When we think back to our time at SSSAS, we think about how much we grew together and learned from each other.
What were your first impressions of each other when you first met at SSSAS?
If we are being honest, neither of us were interested in the other in ninth grade. Angel was never paying attention in class, so when it was his turn to read in English, he never knew where we were. That would drive me crazy. Angel thought I was smart but based on my style choices in ninth grade he thought I was kind of weird.
What have each of you most enjoyed about being part of the SSSAS community?
Twenty years later, our closest friends are SSSAS alums. We have all experienced so much together: vacations, marriages, having children, and the passing of loved ones. At this point in our lives, we can say the friends we made at SSSAS are more like family than friends.
What have you both been up to more recently?
In July of 2019, we had a baby girl, Yanay. Since that time, we have dedicated most of our waking moments to entertaining her. Lindsay has also returned to school and is pursuing a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University.
What is next?
Given the chaos of 2020, our focus is on taking it one day at a time and being grateful for all that we do have.
